Street Children

Yesterday, we went to Tanjung Lipat and I couldn’t believe what I saw!
A group of children were ransacking the trash bin, looking for food. I was like OMG, who are these children? Where are their parents? Maybe they were the street kids that once plaguing the state, where the issue has been repeatedly raised but in the end went cold.

I looked closely and realized that they are not locals or they could be Sabahans but it was hard to identify because they are so filthy. I didn’t mean to insult anyone about cleanliness but that what I saw.

Illegal or not, children should be given education and love. But street kids issue is very complicated. The locals want them to be sent home. Like I said, the problem is not that easy to be solved. DNA proof is one thing. After proving that the child was come from Country X, do you think Country X will agree to take the child just like that? NO. Soon they will demand this and that papers. Papers, documentations, papers, documentations…after the long and hard works, in the end the issue is still there. Full stop. Noktah.

So, who is to blame?

It broke my heart thinking about these children. I believe that life as children suppose to be a happy one…playing, laughing and went to school. Not ransacking the trash to survive life. They need guidance and love so they won’t end up becomes criminal.

Sorry, I cannot capture the children pictures because my fiancĂ© won let me take even one snap. He said, “we are here so you can lessen your stress, not adding it up” (because he knows how I love beach, I guess he doesn’t want me to mess up the moment). OK boss, whatever…

~ Quite a view, isn't it?? ~

  3. this problem has a long history in sabah and is indeed not easy to settle. we dont want them here and their countries wont take them back.. as years go by, their numbers are increasing and no amicable settlement can be achieved. most of the elder immigrants have been granted with PR or red identity cards while many still with their PTI status as so often referred to and being without a valid identification docs or passports they cant get proper jobs and the kids would not be able to attend schools. the social problems will escalate i.e robbery, prostitution, rape, murder etc2. and the kids, well they go to the streets doing whatever they feel like doing. and the govt cant really do much abt it. when these ptis do something wrong, they will get arrested, put on trial, sentenced to jail for certain period of time and then will be subjected to the immigration department to be deported to their country/ies of origin. and more often than not the country/ies of origin wouldnt want to take them back, and therefore they will always be here. and the government cant grant red ics/pr statuses to these people just because they are stateless, there are certain requirements to be fulfilled b4 they can be granted with such status. it is sad and frustrating at the same time. memang kesian tgk those kids but lagi kesian tgk sabah yg stuck with illegal immigrants problem yg xtau sampai bila baru settle. mau jalan d bandar kalau saturang pun takut these days because their population macam makin bertambah each day and kes2 jenayah done by these ppl are increasing. when i was doing my practical in kk courts last december, those illegal immigrants yg bnyk terlibat dgn kes dadah/rompak/samun. sad but true, this is the burden that we have carry indefinitely.
but anyway, this is my thoughts and opinion frm my own perspective.. sorry kalau terkeluar topik a bit/too much. hehe.. and by the way thanks for following me babe ;)
