Eight Lives Down

Title : Eight Lives Down
Author : Chris Hunter
ISBN-10 : 0593058607
ISBN-13 : 978-0593058602

Visceral and compelling, Eight Lives Down is the most exciting and nerve-jangling work of military non-fiction since Bravo Two Zero.

If fate is against me and I’m killed, so be it, but make it quick and painless. If I’m wounded, don’t let me be crippled. But above all, don’t let me f**k up the task.

So goes the bomb technician’s prayer before every bomb he defuses. For Chris Hunter, it is a prayer he says many times during his four-month tour of Iraq. His is the most dangerous job in the world — to make safe the British sector in Iraq against some of the most hardened and technically advanced terrorists in the world. It is a 24/7 job — in the first two months alone, his team defuses over 45 bombs. And the people they’re up against don’t play by the Geneva Convention. For them, there are no rules, only results — death by any means necessary.

The job of a Bomb Disposal officer is a lonely one. You are alone with the sound of your own breathing and the drumming of your heart in a protective suit in forty-plus degrees of heat. The drawbridge has been pulled up behind you as you advance on your goal. It’s just you and the bomb.

But for Chris Hunter, just when life couldn’t get any more dangerous, the stakes are raised again. (source : Amazon

I said to my friend Biskut perhaps I will share a book about soldier's experience this week, so here we are...Seriously, I don't know how I am going to share the story. There also the hesitation. I am afraid some people might not like it or blame me for this because this is a real story, a bomb technician real experience while in Iraq. So please take note aaah, I do not support any party who involve in this story...

Let's just say that Chris Hunter (the bomb technician) is sharing his experience of what it was like to be terrified, how his family coped with his time away and the ever present danger of losing him, and how soldiers like him react to the pressures of the day to day grind in battle.
I cannot imagine how anyone can live in place like that. Terrified, playing with death day and night. There is a scene where soldiers mingle with local kids. One of the kids asked if he have children and wanted to see how they look like. When he asked about the kids ambition, one of them said she want to be a doctor someday. I really touch by the answer, a place like that...still, kids never give up and believe someday they can achieve their own dreams.

Moral of the story, appreciate where we are right now. We have beautiful and peaceful country. it is not easy to build the understanding with each other so don't do something that can ruin the long established trust. We have freedom here but don't take it for granted...Have a great weekend everyone.

Counting The Days

Counting the days to visit grandma, cannot wait for the day to come :)

Mr. M said he want to buy Siupu a pair of shoes (I know he miss that little boy...hahaha). Siupu is my aunt's son. Very talkative and very fluent in Dusun language. When compare to me, it was like OMG (hahaha) and like grandma, he loves telling stories. Of course he got the stories from grandma, where else kan...sometimes he creates his own story which can make you laugh out loud...

Then there is Kuratas, Siupu little sister...this little girl also very talkative and guess what, I cannot sit next to Mr. M if she is around because she will be furious at me (they said she have a crush on Mr. M...HAHAHA). Naaaah....really miss them (sob sob). If they know we are coming, they will asked their mum hundreds of time when will we arrived (sigh)

Mum is coming with us and she already mention that she want to go to this place. What place, will tell you next week (haha) and I know Mr. M will be the happiest person on earth to drive us here and there because he himself loves to 'jalan-jalan'. I hope we can forget our busy and demanding work for a while during the holidays. Holidays supposed to be a jolly days right?? hehe...

PS : What is your plan for the holidays??

Thank You

Sumandak in the house :)

Seriously, how many times do we say Thank You in our daily life. Once, twice, lots of times or never said it at all. I want to share my experience with saying Thank You :)

Thank you is an expression of gratitude

Normally, we say thank you after someone help us with something. Doesn’t matter who that someone is. It could be your spouse, brother, sister, friends, boss or the janitor...but above all, we thank God every morning for giving us the day to experience.

But you know, sometimes I get confuse when I said thank you so many times in a day. I always say the words after paying goodies I bought. Then it will struck me from nowhere like okay, why should I say that. I mean, I am the one who should said welcome right?? Hahaha...

Same situation in the food court. I will say thanks (with a sweet smile) to the waitress after my food arrived on the table. You know what happen next? The waitress will assist you immediately if you need anything. Once, I ask the waitress if she can pack our leftover for the cats at home. She came back with a bulged plastic and said,”Miss I mix this with the food from the kitchen, just don’t tell my boss okay” I was speecless...

Then there is this my favorite vegetables seller. I visit her stall every afternoon to buy veggies. She always give me a special price, even give me a free veggies to bring home. All that act start with the words thank you (in reverse of course...haha). But it is not about the special price or free veggies, I never expect something like that in return. I think that special bound happen when you are sincere with yourself and to others.

And I just realized this yesterday

Sumandak : Anti, piro tii (Auntie, how much is this?)

Auntie : Sorringit (RM1.00)

Veggies packed, after paid the price...

Sumandak : Thank you auntie (blurted out just like that confidentaly)

Auntie : Miagal nopo... (same to you)

Do you know what is weird about it? I was supposed to say Pounsikou (thank you) and Inan (Auntie) but all this time, I’ve been dragging the english words to that obviously Dusun auntie...hahahaha. I should be ashamed of myself and I shouldn't do that. How can you preserve your own language when you mix it with another language? Sorry auntie, it won’t happen again...I promise :)

So, there goes my story. Thank you may seem easy to say but believe me, it means a lot to the person who is being thanked. Start saying thank you as many as you can even if it just a small thing. Apprecaite more in your life...Don’t you feel appreciate when someone say Thank You to you?

Naaah, thank you for taking time to read kio...

PS : Mr. M is the only person on planet earth who loves to top up my credit and when I text him Thank You, he will text me back...Terima Kasih saja? (Just a Thank You?) Ingat percuma kah tu (who said its free?) I was like seriously?? I didn't even ask for it. Orait, he was just kidding okay...hahahaha

Character

Monday Morning Motivation for today...

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

Enjoy your day :)

Dream Tide

Its Saturday, what do you plan today...or are you working like me?? hehe...
Last Saturday Stella asked me if I buy all the books that  I share. The answer is YES :) I picked book to share from my own collection, I buy it myself and some of it are from family and friends...
No book to share today, just a poem from the book Dream Tide by Robin Lee Hatcher. I enjoy reading and collect words, phrase, lines or whatever I like inside the books and this poem is one of it. It is very beautiful, isn't it??

Dream Tide

In dreams I found you
We strolled in fields of clover
We laughed amid the wildflowers
We danced beneath the moonlight
We loved until the dawn.
Too soon, the dawn...
Now I’m awake and wonder
Were you real, my love
Or an illusion of my heart ?

PS : Cannot wait for my books to arrived :)

Ellen's Birthday Coverage :)

Welcome to Jaws Restaurant at 1Borneo (its HALAL, don't worry). Located at the first floor and thats all I can provide you about the location...hehehe. If you are interested and want to come, just go to 1Borneo shopping complex and ask around for direction because this is not a restaurant review (hahahaha). This is about Ellen's Birthday Coverage :)

- 1Borneo Shopping Complex, Sabah -

Orait barait, last week Ellen celebrate her birthday here. As you can see, I am one of her guest list :) Seriously, I am tired that day but I already promise her to come and promise is not to be broken unless you have a very good reason. Thank God I manage to come or I will regret it for the rest of my life...hahaha. Just kidding okay, of course I will come no matter what...

I am glad that I come. We have a good time there, really enjoy the Buffet Steamboat. Spend almost 2 hours eating, eating and eating...hahahaha. I cannot imagine (don't want to imagine) how much fat I collected that day but who cares?? Fat can burn later but friendship is something we must appreciate while we can. Only RM20nett/person maaah,  the concept is eat as much as you can. Furthermore, Ellen warned us not to stop eating...whoever surrender first become the loser >.< I think I am the first one to surrender....hehehehe.

Burrrrrp...super duper full tummy. Its felt so heavy to rise from the chair...

After the eating session, we planned to practice our voice at the KBox but its full. Thank God...Imagine a group of peoples tried to sing desperately with a full tummy. Kahkahkah...Anyway, I have to go early because I cannot stand the tiredness anymore >.<

Ellen :)
Thank you Moi for the treat :) Wish you all the best in the future. God bless you and take good care of yourself. You inspired me to work hard on my blog, showing me that nothing is impossible (her followers already reach 2K I tell you). Keep up the good work and hopefully Nangnak will give you more BE so you can treat us again...hehehe
