Awesome Winning!

PETALING JAYA: For the first time, Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei truly felt on top of the world.
Yesterday, Chong Wei showed who was the real boss on the court when he defeated his nemesis, Lin Dan of China, 21-17, 21-17 in a highly-charged 52-minute final to retain the All-England title.
It was a priceless win and an ecstatic Chong Wei slumped to his knees in sheer delight before rising to the thunderous applause of the fans at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
It was the first time that Chong Wei had beaten Lin Dan to win a major title and the record between the two archrivals now stands at 7-18. (read more here)

So, Monday Motivation for today would be...

I doesn't matter if you've failed, if you've been beaten. All that really matters is if you get back up and try again. Because winning is fun, but winning when nobody thought you would, is just awesome.

Congratulation to Datuk Lee Chong Wei for becoming the winner of All England Single Men. The winning is just awesome!

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa or The Kedah Annals is an ancient Malay literature that chronicles the bloodline of Merong Mahawangsa and the foundation of the Kedah, a state in Malaysia. Though there are historical accuracies, there are many incredible assertions. The era covered by the text ranged from the opening of Kedah by Merong Mahawangsa, allegedly a descendant of Alexander the Great of Macedonia till the acceptance of Islam

Merong Mahawangsa was a Hindu and there were nine Hindu rulers before Phra Ong Mahawangsa converted to Islam in 1136 and took the name Sultan Mudzafar Shah. The annal also describes Chola's attack on Kedah. The descendants of Phra Ong Mahawangsa is still ruling Kedah able to trace their lineage from Merong Mahawangsa. (source : wikipedia)

Naaah, finally the movie hit the cinema today. Personally I am very looking forward and thrilled to watch the movie. But I am going to wait till next week because I am sure (really sure) that the cinema will jam-packed!! I am nervous but cannot wait what the papers will say tomorrow about the movie (hahaha). The trailer alone can make my jaw dropped, so I hope the movie can make everyone said WOW!

Frankly speaking, I am so proud of this big budget movie made by the KRU's because it proves Malaysia Boleh! I read on the internet that the movie doesn't  aired yet but already 'balik modal'. RM8 million is not a small amount! How can you argue the fact, 72 countries already booked and agreed to aired the movie. Speaking about quality combines with international marketing strategy, that's how they managed to get the capital although the movie had not aired yet.

Orait, if you still clueless what I am talking about...watch the trailer below for yourself. Who knows, maybe you will run to the nearest cinema after this (hahaha). Support our local film industry. Do not buy the pirate CDs (@ @)

Nian

A story about a monster and Chinese New Year

There are a lot of version about this monster name Nian. Anyway I pick this version to share with you. Hope you enjoy the story and your day as well...Happy Friday :)

The Spring Festival is the grandest festival for the Chinese. The Spring Festival is also called "Nian", but who knows the term, Nian, was once the name of a furious monster that lived on human beings in the ancient time. How the Festival has some relationship with the monster lies in a story about the origin and development of the Spring Festival.

The legend says, long ago, there was a monster called Nian. It was born to be very ugly and ferocious, which looked like either dragons or unicorns. On the first and the 15th of each lunar month, the monster would come down from the mountains to hunt people. So people were very much afraid of it and locked their doors early before sunset on the days of its coming.

- From : Google -

There lived an old wise man in a village. He thought it was the panic in people that made the monster so bold and furious. Thus the old man asked people to organize together and to conquer the monster by means of beating drums and gongs, burning bamboo, and lighting fireworks in purpose of making large noises to threaten the hateful monster. When he told people about the idea, everybody agreed on it.

At a moonless and freezing cold night, the monster, Nian, appeared again. The moment it opened its mouth at people, burst out the frightening noises and fire made by people, and wherever the monster went, it was forced to back off by the terrible noises. The monster couldn't stop running until he fell down with exhaustion. Then people jumped up and killed the evil monster. Savage as the monster was, he lost in the end under the efforts from the cooperation of people.

- From : Google -

Since then, people have kept the tradition by beating drums and gongs, and lighting fireworks at the coldest day in winter to drive the imagined monsters away and to celebrate the victory over it. Today, Nian refers to the New Year's day or the Spring Festival. People often say Guo Nian, which means 'live the festival.' Furthermore, Nian also means the year. For an example, the Chinese often greet each other by saying Xin Nian Hao, which means Happy New Year! Xin means new and Hao means good.

Mount Kinabalu, Our Heritage

Mt Kinabalu (4095m) is the tallest mountain in South-East Asia and is situated in the Kinabalu National Park in the province of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo. Thousands of tourists visit Kinabalu National Park each year and most come with the intention of climbing Mt Kinabalu.

Fortunately, Mt Kinabalu is one of the easiest peaks in the world to conquer. It takes just two days and climbers don't need any previous experience at mountain climbing. At sunrise, the views from the Mt Kinabalu's summit at Low's Peak are spectacular, making all the effort worthwhile.

Mount Kinabalu, our heritage. The climb of a lifetime…
Seriously, have you ever climb Mount Kinabalu before?
Ten years ago, after the final exam we went climbing Mount Kinabalu. That is the most unforgettable experience I ever had.

You don’t have to be an athlete to complete the climb. In my experience, all you need is determination. Climbing Mount Kinabalu maybe easy and achievable but it is tough. I said it’s easy because you don’t need special equipments or a skill to climb the mountain. It’s tough because from Timpohon Gate, you have to walk on foot before reach Laban Rata. That six kilometers (6KM) walk alone will take four to five hours (depends on your fitness availability).

You have to stay overnight at Laban Rata guest houses before continue climbing the next morning. Wake up around 2am, it will take another 3 to 4 hours to reach the summit. A few of my friends cannot make it and gave up. They decided to stay and wait at Laban Rata. See, exhaustion can break your strength easily, that’s why determination is very important.

But exhaustion is not the only reason that makes climbers to give up. At high altitude, altitude sickness will affect climbers differently. Most will experience mild headache and some will be overcome by nausea and vomiting. The headaches can be helped with paracetamol or similar, and plenty of water. But, if you suffer badly from altitude sickness, the only remedy is to return immediately to lower altitude. Your guide is experienced in this area and he will tell you if it's not safe for you to continue.

Here are some tips to distract the feel of exhaustion. Try to chat and laugh with your friends, take time to enjoy the breathtaking view and take pictures as many as you can along the climb. Anyway, there is an ancient myth (my parents also told me this) that don’t ever try to pick flowers/plants along the path and don’t do something stupid like screaming at the top of your lungs or fooling around because that kind of behavior will make the spirit angry. I am certain that nobody want to get lost at the mountain right?
Don’t be scared you still can chat and laugh…hahaha. We have our own religion and belief but I think it is not wrong to respect the spirit of nature ^ ^

Come visit Sabah and climb the proud Mount Kinabalu. If any of you already conquer the mountain, do share your experiences…
p/s sorry about the pictures...hahaha. Its been ten years, I really regret that I didn't take care all the pictures...

Canopy Walkway at Poring Hot Spring, Ranau

Have you ever try canopy walk before?
Welcome to Canopy Walkway at Poring Hot Spring, Ranau.
This canopy walkway is a must visit for anyone who ever sets foot in Poring Hot Springs. Take a stroll amidst the lush canopy of the Menggaris tree~king of the forest. The walkway is 157.8 meters long and 41 meters high.

~ waiting for our turn ~

I must admit that I am terrified of height. But I challenged myself to do it, actually this is the second time I walk through the canopy. If I survived the first try, why not this second time? lol…

The reason they built this walkway was to provide an opportunity or to experience the wildlife that can be found up there. However, it is not our lucky day because we didn’t see any creature roaming around the tree.

~ at the surveillance deck ~

If you wish to take a break and enjoying the view of rainforest surrounding, they provide a surveillance deck. Take your time but don’t take too long, everyone is waiting for their turn.

At one point, I nearly gave up. I was like OMG, can I even finish this? My fiancé, brothers and sisters keep teasing me from behind. I was in the middle of the walkway, so there is no turning back. The only option was to continued and praying that the walkway will not crash. Hahaha…

~ Yeah! I managed to finish the walkway ~
~ End of torture...lol ~
I don’t even know what I am doing up there. Seriously, you are supposed to enjoy the lavish view but the only thing that wandering in my mind was to finish it ASAP.  I heard a couple of tourist said, "this is a nightmare". Hahahaha…
Moral of this story~if you are afraid of heights then do not attempt this Canopy Walk or you will be at risk of getting stuck.

But believe me, terrified of height or not…the experience was worthwhile, almost exotic!

Malaysia Day Joy In Sabah

:: Malaysia Day Joy In Sabah ::

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is set to host celebrations for Malaysia Day which will be observed as a national public holiday for the first time on Sept 16.

The state and federal governments are jointly organising the celebrations that will be held at Padang Merdeka, the very venue where Sabah and Sarawak joined the Federation of Malaya on Sept 16, 1963 to mark the formation of Malaysia.

The celebrations themed Menjana Transformasi (Generating Transformation) will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Deputy Information, Communication, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum conveyed the federal government’s intention that Sabah play host after meeting with state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun on Friday.

Joseph said the celebrations would allow people to fully understand the meaning of Malaysia Day and how the country was formed through exhibitions in archives and museums.

He said the Merdeka celebrations on Aug 31 was not only for Peninsular Malaysia but also for Sabah and Sarawak, which gained self-rule on Aug 31, 1963 and Malaysia was formed 16 days later.

“We hope history is not forgotten but introduced to the people, particularly the young,” he said.

Sabah previously marked Malaysia Day in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertua Negri’s birthday, which has now been shifted to October.

The Dead Crow

He saw a dead crow
in a drain
near the post office.
He saw an old man
gasping for air
and a baby barely able to breathe
in a crowded morning clinic.

This land is so rich.
Why should we suffer like this?
I want clean air
for my grandchildren.
I want the damned fools
to leave the forest alone.
I want the trees to grow,
the rivers run free,
and the earth covered with grass.
Let the politicians plan how we may live with dignity,
now and always.
(by A. Samad Said)

Just for sharing sempena Bulan Merdeka. Found the poem in my brother's textbook. A simple poem by A. Samad Said, yet speak a thousands meaning...renung-renungkan lah dan selamat beramal.
