Almost Heaven

Title : Almost Heaven
ISBN 10: 0671742558
ISBN 13: 978-0671742553

In this classic novel of two willful lovers caught in a breathless adventure of deception and betrayal, #1 New York Times bestselling author Judith McNaught has created a powerful and unforgettable masterpiece.

ELIZABETH CAMERON
The Countess of Havenhurst possessed a rare gentleness and fierce courage to match her exquisite beauty. But her reputation is shattered when she is discovered in the arms of Ian Thornton, a notorious gambler and social outcast.

IAN THORNTON
A dangerously handsome man of secret wealth and mysterious lineage, his voyage to Elizabeth's heart is fraught with intrigue, scandal, and a venomous revenge.

Destined for each other, yet wary of each other's motives, Elizabeth and Ian engage in a dance of suspicion and passion that tests the very soul of their star-crossed love. As a twisting path of secrets takes them from London's drawing rooms to the mysterious Scottish Highlands, Elizabeth must learn the truth: is Ian merely a ruthless fortune hunter at heart?

:: Judith McNaught ::
OMG! Historical Romance is my favorite book. Hehehe…
And Judith MacNaught is one of my favorite writers. Seriously, if you want to read humor and heart wrenching emotion in one book try Judith McNaught because she is very good at it and be ready with a box of tissue right beside you. Also, she is the only writer who can make me keep going back and re-reading favorite parts.

Elizabeth Cameron and Ian Thornton fall in love almost at first sight. When Ian proposes for Elizabeth's hand in marriage, he had no idea that she was a Countess, and already engaged to someone else. Elizabeth's brother (her guardian) comes on time to save Elizabeth from marrying Ian, but causes a big scene. People at the ton find out about Elizabeth's behaviour through gossip and thus causing a scandal for her.

2 years later, Ian and Elizabeth meet again. Ian treats Elizabeth hostilely, but Elizabeth endures it all, because she realizes that she still loves him, and vice versa when Ian discovers that he was trying too hard to get her out of his life. And so, this begins their quest for love…

I laugh and cried with the characters. This book is full of drama, really makes me crazy. Sometimes you feel want to slap the hero and yell at the heroin. At first, the story starts slow, then pick up it speed till the last page.

I learn a lot from this story. If you face the worst in your life, never give up. Be strong, especially when a lot of peoples put their trust on you. Forgiveness…when someone you love betray you, forgiveness is the most impossible thing to do. But if you really love that someone, you must learn how to forgive, forget and how to build trust. Want to experience Almost Heaven? Give this book a try. Who knows, you might fall in love with your couple all over again. Hehehe…

Overall, the whole story keeps you reading till the last page. Remember, this is not a book review because I think I am not qualified yet to review a book. I just want to share what I read and feel about it…

A Smile

Lets have an easy Friday. Smile everyone, the weekend is coming :)
Here is a poem about SMILE. I hope you are smiling while reading it...hehehe

A smile costs nothing, but gives much.
It enriches those who give it.
It only takes but a moment,
But the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.

No one is so rich or mighty
That he can get along without it.
And no one is so poor
That he cannot be made richer by it.

A smile creates happiness in the home,
Promotes good will in business,
And is the cornerstone of friendship.

It can perk up the weary,
Bring cheer to the discouraged,
Sunshine to the sad,
And is nature's best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought,
Begged, borrowed or stolen;
For it is something that is of no value to anyone
Until it is given away.

When people are too tired to give you a smile,
Give them one of yours.
No one needs a smile so much
As he who has none to give...

Indonesia's Mount Merapi Volcano Erupts Again

SLEMAN—Indonesia's Mount Merapi volcano, which killed 32 people earlier this week, erupted again Thursday, spewing ash and deadly heat clouds, an official said.

Government volcanologist Surono said hot gas and ash spewed from the mouth of Mount Merapi, Indonesia's most active volcano.

"We registered a small volcanic tremor. The threats are still there," he said.

More than 50,000 people have moved into temporary shelters since Monday, when the government issued a red alert for Merapi, indicating that the "Mountain of Fire" could be about to erupt.

The next day a deadly series of massive eruptions left 32 people dead and blanketed nearby villages in searing ash.

Many of the victims were buried in a mass grave earlier Thursday.

3 Things

Okay, there are 3 things I have in mind for the past 2 weeks but I have to choose which one to do first...

Handphone. This stuff is important. Everyone use it to keep in touch with friends, family and loves one. And because of my blogging addiction, I need to upgrade my handphone. I  want to capture lots of pictures for my blog and I want the pictures in a good quality (tak kuasa nak angkut kamera ke hulu ke hilir…hihihi). The truth is, my old handphone always give me a headache. I was thinking, instead of spending a lot of money for repairing, servicing and all kinds of bla bla bla…why not I buy a new one, right??? Hehe…

Rebonding aka hair makeover. Makeover is ladies's best friend (hahaha). Seriously, I need a new hair cut and maybe straighten back my hair. Sometimes, I need to meet my customer so appearance is important. Not a beautiful appearance but confident appearance. If you don’t feel confident, believe me…your customer can feel it too because the feeling was written all over your face. So what is the connection between hair and confident? Yaaay, my original hair is wavy and not easy to manage. It took at least 20 minutes to adjust this and that in front of the mirror (boleh gila I tell you, kadang-kadang macam mau telan saja tu minyak rambut) That’s why I straighten my hair once in a year. Sungguh senang diurus begitu saja ^ ^

Driving License. Ladies at my age should already have driving license. Me??? Not yet but I am working on it. We ladies must know how to drive a car, be independent. We don’t know what will happen in the future right? I should get my license two years ago but I keep postponing my plan. I think I will pass with flying colour. Sometimes, Mr. M let me ‘test drive’ his car. Yes, we reach the destination safely but Mr. M rolled his eyes all the way because I used gear one ONLY. Hahahahaha…Maybe I was born to drive auto car :)

Money is not the question here. The main thing is, which one is important. If ikut hati (follow my heart), I want to do it all at once but…sabar (be patient). Don’t be greed. The economy right now also unstable means anything can happen. So, we have to be prepared. After speak heart to heart with Mr. M, we decide that I must do driving license first. The handphone can wait. He promised he will buy a new one if I pass my driving lesson >.< Houye, houye (hmmm…I am falling in love with the right guy, hehehe)
As for the makeover, will calculate the budget first. Maybe you can see the new me by the end of this month ^ ^

How about you, have you experience something like this before?

Sungai Pikot, Our Little Paradise

Welcome to Sungai Pikot, our little paradise. Don’t bother to look for it on the map. You won’t find it…hahaha
Seriously, have you ever experienced ‘mandi sungai’ (taking bath in the river) before? Doesn’t matter if you are an adult or kids, I know you will agree with me that ‘mandi sungai’ is a fun thing to do, right? Okay, this post is not some kind of a must visit place. It is more to something to be shared :)

When we were young, Sungai Pikot was our playground. We have no real playground. We live up the hill, far from civilization. So, the jungle and river unofficially becomes our playground. You know, I miss my childhood very much. I wish that I could turn back time and experience it once again ~sigh~

Nothing has change for the past 20 years. The river is still there, still in the same shape. Still stand proud and always looking forward for our visit. Hahaha…
As you can see, it is just a small spot but we have so many memories here. Anyone and everyone can came here, as long you respect this place (I mean keep this place clean). Actually the place is just 5 minutes from my house. During holidays especially school holidays, Sungai Pikot usually packed with kids. Hahahaha…their laughter can be heard from my house. Sometimes you cannot help yourself from smiling hearing them enjoying the moment.

Not only kids, the grown up also likes to spend their time here. Seriously, no sexy outfit (hahahahahaha) because this is an open area where everyone can see you. Laughing, screaming at the top of your lung…nobody will mad at you. Just don’t harm yourself by doing stupid action, it is a rocky place not a swimming pool ^ ^

I remember one of my friend’s kid asked me what the color of the river is. He asked, is it black? I told him that our river is clean and clear, hoping that it will stay that way forever and ever. Anyway, I cannot blame him for that question. Nowadays, it’s hard to find a clean river. Most of the rivers already threatened by pollution and sadly some of it pronounced a dead river.

Perfect location for photography but please don't try this action at home...hahaha

I said we are far from civilization because there is nothing here. No library, no shop, no football field, no cable phone…big NOTHING. Thank God we have electricity and thank God they invent broadband. Hahaha…
As for communication, we have to rely on our handphone and the ‘shabby’ road to link with the outside world. But we are extremely happy here because we have fresh air and green environment.

Sarah's Key

Title : Sarah's Key
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
Language: English
ISBN 10 : 0-312-37084-9
ISBN 13 : 978-0-312-37084-8

Paris, July 1942 : Sarah, a ten year old girl, is taken with her parents by the French police as they go door to door arresting Jewish families in the middle of the night. Desperate to protect her younger brother, Sarah locks him in a bedroom cupboard-their secret hiding place-and promise to come back for him as soon as they released.

Sixty Years Later : Sarah’s story intertwines with that of Julia Jarmond, an American journalist investigating the roundup. In her research, Julia stumbles onto a trail of secrets that link her to Sarah, and to questions about her own romantic future.

In Sarah’s Key, Tatiana de Rosnay offers up a mesmerizing story in which a tragic past unfolds, the present is torn apart, and the future is irrevocably altered.

:: Jewish during the roundup ::
Seriously, this is a very challenging story. At one point, I nearly put the book down because the story is gut wrenching. This is not a historical novel but more to contemporary.

Sarah is a story from the past. How can a little girl survive the horror she has to face during the roundup? Maybe it was her determination to save her brother, because she promise she will come back. Miraculously she managed to escape from the camp and began her journey to save her brother. The journey is not a pleasant one, very painful and oh my gosh…I cried because Sarah’s character is so strong. That’s why I nearly put down the book, the truth is I already guess what had happened to her little brother but I don’t have the courage to read about it and how she will react. Even after I finished the book, her character was still haunting me.

Julia is a present story. Working as an American journalist, she investigates about the roundup. During her investigation, she stumbles into her in laws secrets that link to Sarah. Sorry I cannot explain it here because it is very complicated. I guess you have to read the book…

:: Two young boys wearing Jewish badges shortly before the roundup ::
:: Children in the camp ::
I wish the author write more on Sarah rather than Julia. Anyway, I loved the way the chapters were set up. The chapters went back and forth between 1944 and 2004 until the characters finally came together and all questions were answered. And, I wish that the roundup and the holocaust thing is just a fiction. Sadly, it truly happens. It is unthinkable human can do such thing to another human being. This is an amazing story that reminds us that the Holocaust was about the murder of innocent people including little children whose only crime was being born Jewish.

:: The death march ::
