How To Treat Sunburn

Sumandak in the house :)

Yesterday, my sister text me that she just finish kayaking. Like everyone know, that kind of activity expose our skin to the sun. She had sunburn and asks for tips. Frankly speaking, I myself don’t know how to treat sunburn but as a big sister (hahaha) it is my duty to find and suggest tips for her. This is the time when Mr. G aka Mr. Google came to the rescue, just type what you want, hit enter and tadaaa...finish (hehe)

What is sunburn?
Sunburn is condition that occurs to skin that has been overexposed to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. Too much time in the sun without protection can result in heightened sensitivity, redness, pain, and even blisters. Some may said that it’s OK to have sunburn because it’s not permanent and may heal over the time but read thisKeep in mind that sunburn can be more harmful than you though it is, if not instantaneously fatal. One of the most lethal outcomes of recurring sunburn is melanoma, a type of skin cancer. It was said that a person who have had sunburn more than five times in their lifetime has double the risk of getting melanoma skin cancer. Unprotected sun and ultraviolet exposure can also cause skins’ premature aging and constant exposure might even cause first or second degree burns and heatstroke.

The best way to avoid sunburn, don’t ever forget to wear sunscreen everytime you go outdoors. The sunscreen cannot protect you 100% from UV rays but at least it can reduce the reaction of sunburn. There are wide ranges of sunscreen lotion in the market, I recommend you to look for sunblock which has SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 25 and above depends where you are going for outdoor activity. For example, activities at the beach require SPF more than 25. In case you are involve in water sport, look for waterproof sunblock. Higher SPF means more protection you get.

Basically, we cannot run away from sunburn. I mention earlier, sunblock cannot protect you 100% from UV rays. In my own experience, sometimes the heat is too much and I think the UV rays manage to find a way into my skin (haha). Be prepared when you got sunburn – the itching skin and you wish you live inside a freezer (hahaha). I believe most of us had an experience about this sunburn thing. Don’t worry, here is a few tips for all of us…

Ice cubes. Have a few ice cubes, put or wrap it in the towel. Then press the towel on your sunburn part. This method can help you to cool down your skin.

Aloe Vera. If you got this plant around your house, then you are lucky. Take the Aloe Vera leaf, open it and gently apply the jelly over your burn area. Repeat as often as you like. The jelly can help to soothe the burn skin and moisturize it as well. This method is highly recommended because Aloe Vera is frequently used as a treatment of burns. Furthermore it is cheap and natural remedies that you can find at home.

You can get the Aloe product on most stores. But before you buy it, make sure it has a high concentration of aloe. Aloe Vera should be listed first or at least near the top of the list of ingredients. Avoid product where the water contain is more than aloe because it will not be very helpful. Also, be sure to check the expiration date, as aloe can lose some of its healing properties over time.

Yogurt. Use plain and fresh yogurt as a mask on your burn skin. First, put the yogurt in the freezer to cool it. The protein and fat ingredients of yogurt can help to trim down the pressure of sunburn on your skin.

Cool bath. Take a cool bath to help you more comfortable. Cool water will help lower your body temperature and reduce the heat of the skin. After bathing, dress in loose comfortable clothing and stay in out of the sun until your sunburn begins to heal. Be sure to get plenty of rest. Make sure you eat even if you not feel like eating, because you need energy to keep up your strength. Sunburn can be like any illness or injury depending on its severity, and your body needs nourishment to heal itself.

Above all, drink plenty of water as dangers of dehydration multiply with sunburn. Avoid alcoholic drink because it may increase the risk of becoming dehydrated.

Don’t do these while you have sunburn :

Avoid soap because it can cause unwanted irritation

Don’t put lotion on burn parts. Lotion can seal the heat and clogs the stressed out skin.

If your sunburn start to peel, don’t scratch it. The action can cause further damage. Use calamine lotion to ease the itching skin.

Never try to open blisters! It can lead to a serious infection and leave a scar on your skin. In case, if the blisters give you unbearable pain along with fever or nausea, seriously you need to see a doctor.

PS : That’s all :) If you have another remedies or tips, please share. Sharing is caring…

Bulge Stomach

Hello everyone, good morning...
No book to share today, believe it or not I cannot find the right book. I spend almost 20 minutes looking for the title or genre without success. So, let’s change it to another topic. Do Bulge Stomach sounds familiar to you??

Seriously, I am struggling with a bulge stomach! I was like OMG because it becomes more and more obvious! Before the Hari Raya (I mean at the fasting month) I lose 1Kg and after that my weight increased by 2Kg. My God, I don’t even know what I eat at that time…hahaha. Or maybe it is a normal thing to happen when you age is 29++ (hehe)

Okay, before we share more about this...please take note that this topic is not to offend anyone. I understand, most people who suffer this situation can become very sensitive. That including me, haha...Sometimes, when my sister said I was like a pregnant woman, I hurt a little because she mean my stomach bulged! But it is the truth and as a grown up we must face the fact even if it hurt. So, if I hurt anyone feelings, please forgive me because I didn't mean it. Okay, here goes...

Bulge Stomach - It's been defined as one of the most problematic areas on a person's body…the stomach - and it seems everyone is obsessed with flattening it.

Unfortunately many people think they can eat whatever they want and get a flat stomach by performing 250 crunches per day to burn off the extra fat and calories. That's probably the biggest myth around. The reality is, most people never have long-term success when it comes to losing stomach fat.

Why It's So Hard to Lose Belly Fat
The majority of people who set out to lose belly fat never reach their goal, and those who do, only keep it off for a short amount of time. If this describes you, let's explore the reasons why you are struggling with weight loss and/or flattening your stomach...

Lack Of Understanding Of How Your Body Works

A lot of people assume they can just do crunches or buy an ab machine to flatten their stomach. When you have stomach flab, you actually have extra flab all over your body. It just may look worse in the mid section.

Or maybe you have the type of body frame that gains a disproportionate amount in your stomach area. So it's understandable why you may think you only need to exercise that one area to achieve results.

It's important you understand that you will never lose your stomach fat until you get your entire body into shape.

Real Flat Stomach Facts
You need to understand that your stomach will never be flat until you lose weight in all areas. Maintaining a toned middle means developing good eating habits for life, stop crash dieting, exercise regularly and have tons of patience. Crunches alone will never get the job done.

Maybe this sounds like you?

"I want a flat stomach but my stomach never looks flat!"

"My dress looked great this morning. Why won't it fasten now?"

"My tummy feels heavy and bloated even after small meals!"

"I've tried every pill, potion and diet on the market but despite losing weight my stomach still looks fat and bloated!"

"I hate counting calories and doing boring sit-ups and crunches!"

If this sounds all too familiar you are not alone! Bloating makes you look and feel fat and for some people, trying to keep a Flat Stomach is a daily battle due to constant abdominal bloating. How often have you complained that those favourite jeans that fit so snugly first thing in the morning are bursting at the seams by evening? You eat healthily, you're relatively fit and your weight and bmi are normal so why do you still look fat? How can you stop bloating?

Here's a quick guide you can follow to help flatten your stomach. Print this list out and post it somewhere in your house where you'll see it.

1. Walk/jog for 30 minutes at least 3 times per week to boost your metabolism in order to burn that fat.

2. Eat a small handful of almonds (at least 6) every morning. Almonds are one of the healthiest snacks you can eat and the protein is good for burning fat.

3. Purchase a Pilates DVD and do the exercises at least 2-3 times per week. Pilates works on toning your entire body with concentration on your powerhouse (middle section) and will improve your flexibility.

4. Add fiber to your diet and cut down your intake of the bad carbs. Foods such as white bread, pastas, potatoes, and white rice should be limited. Eat brown rice and whole wheat bread instead. To get that needed fiber increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables (especially the leafy green ones).

5. Drink skim milk instead of whole milk. Keep your dairy intake at a minimum because these products often cause bloating and gas. (read more here)

Pink Ribbon

Sebarkan mesej reben Merah Jambu

(read more here)

Five survivors sacrifice time to help raise breast cancer awareness

EARLY detection saves lives. That was the message that Ranbir Kaur Toor and four other women tried to get across as they worked the crowd during a recent breast cancer awareness campaign held at a hypermarket in Seremban.

The five women – all breast cancer survivors – were determined to spread awareness of the disease despite their own busy schedules.

They had volunteered their time to take part in a series of nationwide road shows organised by the Pride Foundation, a charity that aims to enhance awareness efforts and improve accessibility to treatment and care of breast cancer at all levels of society.

Ranbir Kaur, 46, a seven-year breast cancer survivor and mother of one, said the time she sacrificed to participate in the road show was well worth it as she did not want any one to go through what she had. (read more here)

Potato Diet

Potato Diet Details: Chris Voigt Loses 21 Pounds

Need to lose a few pounds? How would you like to be on a potato diet? Indeed, it does not sound as simple as it sounds. Don't think for a second that all those yummy toppings that are usually associated with potatoes can be added.

Chris Voigt, 45, ate a total of 1,200 potatoes during his 60-day diet. Voigt lost a grand total of 21 pounds.

He said in an interview with The Seattle Times, "I've baked, boiled, broiled, fried, smashed and shredded potatoes." He said he avoided butter, sour cream, and bacon bits during his potato diet. He ate 20 potatoes a day.

So why did he do this? Well it just so happens that Voigt is the executive director of the Washington State Potato Commission. This is masterful promoting of potatoes at it's best.

Voigt made the case that carbohydrates are not to be blamed for the obesity crisis in the U.S. He said, "It seemed as if the potato was being blamed for the obesity crisis, for diabetes, that it was the scourge of the earth."

Seriously, will buy and eat more potatoes after this. hehehe...

Asthma

Yesterday, I read in Ellen's blog about asthma. Seriously, don't underestimate asthma. If you don't handle it properly, it can cause a big problem. So, today lets learn a little bit what is asthma. If you have tips how to cure asthma, please share it here because Ellen is asking for a tips...

Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the bronchial tubes (airways) that causes swelling and narrowing (constriction) of the airways. The result is difficulty breathing. The bronchial narrowing is usually either totally or at least partially reversible with treatments

Asthma affects people differently. Each individual is unique in their degree of reactivity to environmental triggers. This naturally influences the type and dose of medication prescribed, which may vary from one individual to another.

Typical symptoms and signs of asthma

The symptoms of asthma vary from person to person and in any individual from time to time. It is important to remember that many of these symptoms can be subtle and similar to those seen in other conditions. All of the symptoms mentioned below can be present in other respiratory, and sometimes, in heart conditions. This potential confusion makes identifying the settings in which the symptoms occur and diagnostic testing very important in recognizing this disorder.

The following are the four major recognized asthma symptoms:
a) Shortness of breath, especially with exertion or at night

b) Wheezing is a whistling or hissing sound when breathing out

c) Coughing may be chronic, is usually worse at night and early morning, and may occur after exercise or when exposed to cold, dry air

d) Chest tightness may occur with or without the above symptoms

Asthma Home Remedies

Asthma treatment using Honey
Honey is one of the most common home remedies for asthma. It is said that if a jug of honey is held under the nose of an asthma patient and he inhales the air that comes into contact with it, he starts breathing easier and deeper.

Asthma treatment using Figs
Among fruits, figs have proved very valuable in asthma. They give comfort to the patient by draining off the phlegm. Three or four dry figs should be cleaned thoroughly with warm water and soaked overnight.

Asthma treatment using Lemon
Lemon is another fruit found beneficial in the treatment of asthma. The juice of one lemon, diluted in a glass of water and taken with meals, will bring good results.

Coughing Delays Heart Attack : Expert

Do you know that coughing delays heart attack?
COUGHING could delay heart attacks as it stabilises an individual's heart rate, thus providing more time for the patient to get medical assistance, a heart specialist said yesterday.

Dr Ganesan Thirunavukkarasu (pictured) said coughing can help increase one's heart rate and improves the blood pressure of individuals who were possibly developing symptoms of a heart attack.
"What has been noted with people who are developing heart attack is that the heart rhythm becomes irregular, sometimes it can go very low, or it can go very fast. When heart rate goes very low, they will feel a bit dizzy, in addition to chest pains," said the director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at Gleneagles JPMC.

During a "Know Your Heart Symposium" held to mark World Heart Day 2010, the heart specialist, who is also a cardiologist and physician consultant, added that these patients would then feel like they were about to faint.

"Some of the symptoms of a heart attack is chest pain, sweating and shortness of breath. They feel that they're going to faint, they might feel very unsteady, that they're going to faint, due to low heart rate. At that time, if they cough, it might improve," he explained.

"What happens is by coughing, you are increasing the heart rate. By increasing the heart rate, you are increasing blood supply to the brain, so you will feel better, the dizzy feelings will improve," the director added.
Dr Thirunavukkarasu said that coughing is also a method that would allow patients enough time to get medical help.
"It will give you time to stabilise your heart rhythm and improve your blood pressure, once the heart rhythm is stabilised, you'll have more time to reach the hospital."
He added that coughing would not necessarily help in every heart attack case and that the most important step was to immediately rush the patient to the hospital.
"It will not necessary help but delays (the start of) heart attacks."

Delivering his presentation, "Effective Management of Heart Diseases!", at the symposium, Dr Thirunavukkarasu outlined a number of effective heart disease solutions and managements.
The heart specialist highlighted that the most effective way for a healthy life is prevention, by taking care of diet, exercise and control of risk factors.

Yawning

Next time you're in a meeting, try this little experiment: Take a big yawn, cover your mouth out of courtesy, and watch and see how many people yawn. There's a good chance that you'll set off a chain reaction of yawns. Before you finish reading this question of the day, it's likely that you will yawn at least once. Don't misunderstand, we aren't intending to bore you, but just reading about yawning will make you yawn, just as seeing or hearing someone else yawn makes us yawn.

What's behind this mysterious epidemic of yawning? First, let's look at what a yawn is. Yawning is an involuntary action that causes us to open our mouths wide and breathe in deeply. We know it's involuntary because we do it even before we are born. Research shows that 11-week-old fetuses yawn.

There are many parts of the body that are in action when you yawn. First, your mouth opens and jaw drops, allowing as much air to be taken in as possible. When you inhale, the air taken in is filling your lungs. Your abdominal muscles flex and your diaphragm is pushed down. The air you breath in expands the lungs to capacity and then some of the air is blown back out.

Contagious, isn't it? hehehe...
