Last month, on the 22 of March 2012 me and Mr. M registered our marriage at Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara. I should have shared that moment earlier but so many things need to be taken care of. Anyway, here is our wedding registration in the KadazanDusun traditional costume...

Blessing at the church and reception will be this coming Saturday. Suddenly I feel so nervous, I just hope that everything will went well as we plan...

If you happen to live around Kota Kinabalu, do welcome to our wedding mass and thereafter to our reception. Contact me by email or simply drop your email at comment box so I can give you the details :)

Sumazau Mingkung

Sumazau Dance

View The First Dance of Newly-Weds

Kota Kinabalu: Most Sabahans may think they have seen it all - the Kadazan Sumazau dance. But what about a specific dance called Sumazau mingkung - the first dance together for newly weds?
That could be new for many attending the Sabah Fest 2011 cultural extravaganza on April 30 and 1 May, at the Sutera Harbour Magellan Grand Ballroom.
For Kadazans of Penampang, the Sumazau Mingkung is a specific dance performed especially as a tribute to a newly-married couple.
On wedding day, the groom heads for the bride's house in a procession with the bridewealth (nopung) on hand.
On arrival, gongs beat and the nopung is taken from him, the bride appears at the entrance and the bobohizan (ritual specialist) uses a popodu - a bunch of five types of leaves to sprinkle water to perform a ritual called vokis, to bless the newly weds.
After the blessing, the couple place a foot each on a round stone called pampang at the bottom of the stairs while the bobohizan symbolically holds the conical hats called seraung, over their heads.
The stone and the hats symbolize strong and lasting marriage while the hats represent shields to protect them from evil on wedding day and thereafter.
After a few short mantras, the bobohizan would then enter the house.
In the house, the couple performs their first Sumazau dance together as a married couple with the bobohizan and other elders surrounding them, performing that specific dance called Sumazau mingkung.
After that first dance, relatives and guests are invited to join in.
This is the unique dance and ceremony the Sabah Fest audience will see on 30 April and 1 May.
Tickets are priced RM30 and RM50.
Call Sabah Tourism , Gaya Street 6088-212121 or Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sinsuran, 6088-232121.

This Sumazau Mingkung dance is new to me and I am sure for most of the Sabahan too. I am wondering how this dance look like, is it the same step with  the Sumazau? The picture above is not Sumazau Mingkung dance. I try to Google it but found none. So, the only way to satisfy the curiosity is to attend the Sabah Fest 2011 event at the Sutera Harbour Magellan Grand Ballroom.
Or maybe there are someone out there familiar with this traditional dance. If yes, please share it here...
Interesting...isn't it? We read, watch, learn and think we know all about our culture, tradition or tribe but the truth is there are so many things still uncover. The deeper we dig, the more we want to know. It is not a force for us to learn and know our own culture but it is more to responsibility to prevent the culture lost in time...

My Best Friend's Wedding

Hello everyone, Sumandak in the house with a good spirit although I know its already in the middle of the night...hihihi

Yay, last Sunday me and Mr. M went to Kota Marudu. Last year, we went to the same journey for Hari Raya open house but this time it was because of my best friend’s wedding. We were supposed to go with my two siblings but they cancelled at the very last minute.

We started the journey at 3.00 pm from Kota Kinabalu. Can you believe that?! We are super late! Actually Mr. M promise to leave from Kota Kinabalu around 12.30 pm but the plan did not go as we planned. Well, I am a little bit annoyed also disappointed but I cannot blame Mr. M on the delays. He had been good enough to take time off so we can go to the wedding together.

The weather was not so good especially when we reached Kota Belud. The night before, Zezebel is texting me said she is worried because the rain won’t stop and I understand why she felt like that. Houses along the way at Kota Belud were hit by flood especially the ones build at the lower area. The road is not flooded yet but Mr. M was quite worried, what if it rains heavily later? I assured him, there is nothing to be worried. Just pray everything will be fine…

So, it was nearly 5pm when we finally arrived at Zezebel’s house. I feel guilty for coming late but like Mr. M said, better came late rather than don’t coming at all and I guess he was right (haha). I still cannot believe Zezebel is now a wife (sob sob), I just hope our friendship will stay the way it is. And actually deep inside my heart, I am super-happy because finally she found her true Mr. Right. As long she is happy, then I will happy too...

I only managed to snap two pictures during her wedding due to our late arrival (haha). And of course, I publish these pictures with her permission especially from her husband (~~). I wish both of them all the best in the future. It won't be easy, there will be challenges but I am sure they are ready physically and mentally. When two peoples decided to get married, that means they are willing to accept the good and bad of themselves. Both of you, don't worry about me. I won't get stressed about this wedding thing...hahaha

It’s a pity we cannot linger more, the weather is getting worse and its getting late. With a heavy heart, I said goodbye to Puan Zezebel (hohoho) and headed home...

Awesome Winning!

PETALING JAYA: For the first time, Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei truly felt on top of the world.
Yesterday, Chong Wei showed who was the real boss on the court when he defeated his nemesis, Lin Dan of China, 21-17, 21-17 in a highly-charged 52-minute final to retain the All-England title.
It was a priceless win and an ecstatic Chong Wei slumped to his knees in sheer delight before rising to the thunderous applause of the fans at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
It was the first time that Chong Wei had beaten Lin Dan to win a major title and the record between the two archrivals now stands at 7-18. (read more here)

So, Monday Motivation for today would be...

I doesn't matter if you've failed, if you've been beaten. All that really matters is if you get back up and try again. Because winning is fun, but winning when nobody thought you would, is just awesome.

Congratulation to Datuk Lee Chong Wei for becoming the winner of All England Single Men. The winning is just awesome!

International Women's Day

Sumandak in the house :)

Each year on the 8th of March, the day is marked as International Women's Day. It is the day of celebration towards women's economic, political and social achievements. As you can see, in the past the three subject were dominated by men. But nowadays, there is no such thing. Women and men can stand in the same level or in another words they have the same opportunities. Women also has a great achievement in their own league and marked their name in the history.

Take Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar for example. She is Bank Negara Malaysia Governor, proof that women also can achieve a highest career if they want to. Of course you have to work hard for it and because of her work ethic she was named as one of the World's Best Central Bankers. That is only one example, if you want more try Google about women achievement all around the world. I am pretty sure, the result can bring a smile...hehe.

Today is the day :) What makes the day special is...it is the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day. Yesterday, I saw this topic on yahoo. So I think, why not I bring the topic here today. The topic goes like this, in the celebration of this event, share with everyone the woman you admire the most. Why she is special to you or inspire you more than all the other women you know?

As for me, I definitely choose my beloved MUM :)

She is my inspiration for being a woman. From her, I learn that woman also can make their own decision. Woman cannot be too dependent on men. I didn't mean that women doesn't need men. God created man and woman, they need each other. What I am trying to say is, there will be a time when women need to think on their own. Like my mum, in the past she worked very hard to make sure all of us get better education. She knows that if she depend on her husband only for living, the family will go nowhere. When we were young, life was not easy. My mum believed the only way to improve our life and to secure our future is by education and she is right. We owe her that much.

My mum doesn't have the best career in the world but she achieve her greatest achievement by raising us to become what we are right now. Cheeers to all the women in the world...

PS : How about you? Who is the woman you admire the most?
